Abstract

Derry City and Strabane District Council invite suppliers to tender for PeacePlus Sperrin Youth Voices. The project will involve a series of workshops, training sessions, and activities that aim to build the capacity of young participants aged 12-18 years old who are impacted by rural isolation in the Sperrin DEA. This will include opportunities for them to develop their leadership skills, learn about good relations and peacebuilding, explore their culture and heritage, and gain awareness of issues such as sectarianism, racism, poverty, and paramilitary influence. The project will also focus on providing support and diversionary activities for the young people during contentious times, such as the 12th of July and Halloween, when they may be more vulnerable to antisocial behaviour. By engaging them in constructive and positive activities, the project aims to help them feel safer, healthier, and more respected in their communities. Through Citizenship programming, the participants will have the opportunity to become active and responsible citizens by increasing their skills, confidence, and capacity. This will include cultural appreciation activities and discussions on challenging prejudice, such as examining different cultural practices like marching bands, Gaelic sports, and cricket. Overall, the project aims to recruit and support 90 young people from rural areas in the Sperrin hinterlands to include Plumbridge, Park, Donemana, Artigarvan, Ballymagorry, Aughabrack and Glenmoran Areas and provide them with valuable opportunities for personal and community development. Please refer to the CfT documents for further detail.
