Abstract

IMPACT is a capital and revenue funded, eight year, GBP35million operation, where funding under the ERDF Investment Priority 1. Research and Innovation, aims to increase the capacity of Welsh Research Institutions and their success in attracting competitive and private research funding, whilst contributing to SO1.1. IMPACT is also expected to deliver a Centre of Excellence in the form of a Research Institute, capable of initiating and driving significant additional sustainable world-leading research and the creation of world-leading academic jobs and economic growth through its strategic operation and collaboration with global, regional and local industry stakeholders and world-class academic partners. IMPACT’s GBP17.4million of ERDF capital funding will be used to design, plan and construct a state of the art building (approximately 6000m2 in size with a total value of GBP20.3million) to house world-leading academics and researchers from the College of Engineering within Swansea University’s Science and Technology Bay Campus. At the heart of the IMPACT building will be a large fully equipped, reconfigurable laboratory space to house research facilities related to IMPACT’s five key themes: Future Manufacturing Technologies, Next Generation Materials Property Measurement, Advanced Structural Mechanics, Vapour Deposition Cluster and Metal Technology Centre. This procurement is to support that equipping requirement of the laboratory space, by seeking a suitable provider of a Glovebox System
