Bouygues UK is the preferred bidder for the Hwb project,
which is a collaborative project between Carmarthenshire County Council, Hywel
Dda University Health Board and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David
(UWTSD).
The scheme when complete will create a ‘state of the art’
centre which will bring together health, wellbeing and cultural services under
one roof, housed in the former Debenhams store in the centre of the town.
The Hwb will be a public space that will promote
preventative health care and wellbeing. It will include employment support and
lifelong learning opportunities, a gym, as well as housing some of the county’s
museum collections in a state-of-the-art leisure, culture and exhibition space.
Once open to the public, it’s expected to increase footfall
and drive economic resilience for the town centre.
This new Hwb will be the first of its kind in
Carmarthenshire. This Hwb will encourage more people into the town centre by
housing public services under one roof.
