Peatland Restoration Works Elan Valley

Description of the goods or services required

There is 17ha of Peatland Restoration work, aimed at reducing erosion of the Peat and rewetting the site. The work involves mostly Peat based interventions- standard peat dams in small gullies and contour bunding on dry areas, with a small amount of plastic piling being used on one peat pipe. The site is fairly easily accessed.

The site is 17ha

Standard Peat Dam

Blocking of small gullies in a dendritic area, on average 3m long, 1m wide, and up to 1m tall, dams installed roughly every 10m totalling at an estimated 134 dams.

Plastic piling

Peat Pipe blocking - on average 9m wide, dams inserted every 10m totalling at an estimated 22 dams.

Contour Bunding

Contour bunds on flat modified bog surface.

Bund height with turf will be 400mm. Bund width will be 80 cm- 1m. Average 6m cross bund every 20m. Covered with vegetation.

2250m of bunding (including the 6m cross bunds)
