Abstract

The National Museum of Wales (Amgueddfa Cymru) is calling for expressions of interest from appropriately qualified companies to participate in a competitive tender exercise early in 2025 for the provision of specialist transport services for fine arts. The absolute minimum qualification required for participation in the ITT is the ability and commitment to perform the services in full and complete compliance with all requirements of the "General Transport Conditions which apply under the Government Indemnity Scheme 1" per the National Heritage Act 1980, section 16 - copy attached. PLEASE DO NOT EXPRESS AN INTEREST IN TENDERING UNTIL YOU HAVE READ THESE CONDITIONS AND ARE CONFIDENT THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A COMPLIANT SERVICE. Art works are being contributed by multiple museums, galleries and private collections from Wales, Scotland, England, France and the USA, with the majority being currently located in Wales. Exhibitions will be held sequentially in the National Museum of Wales, the National Art Gallery in Scotland, the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington and the Yale Centre for British Art in New Haven throughout 2026 and 2027. It is anticipated that some 200 artefacts will be in need of transportation between each exhibition, and ultimately, these works will need to be returned to their originating collection(s), some sooner than others.
