The Leisure, Tourism, Heritage and Culture Department (Education Directorate) of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council (The Council) is seeking to appoint a Ranger / Engagement Worker for Craig Gwladus Woods Country Park to assist in delivery of the “Coal and the Community of Craig Gwladus” project during 2025. The Ranger / Engagement worker will be responsible for practical maintenance of the park, recruitment and development of volunteers and delivery of a range of engagement activities.
The park is managed in close partnership with the Friends of Craig Gwladus. The National Lottery Heritage Fund have awarded a grant for a project titled “ Coal and the Community of Craig Gwladus”. This grant will fund the Ranger / Engagement Worker role.
In addition to delivering specific goals of the “Coal and the Community of Craig Gwladus” project, the Ranger / Engagement Worker will contribute to achieving the overall vision for Craig Gwladus Woods. That is to develop and consolidate it as:
1. A quality woodland space and facility for outdoor learning and activities, serving the local education, health and leisure sectors.
2. A showcase, historic drift mine site that forms part of a visitor experience that tells the wider story of the industrial heritage of the Neath Valley.
3. A thriving facility for the local community that they are proud of, they can enjoy and feel able to be involved with.
4. A self-sustaining, community run park.
5. A rich, resilient and recovering Ancient Woodland wildlife habitat.
