Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council (BGCBC) are seeking tenders from a professional and reputable company to undertake a Weed Spraying Service for highway verges, which is to include roadway gutters, pavement & step edges adjoining verge lines and rear lanes throughout the borough..

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council (BGCBC) are seeking tenders from a professional and reputable company to undertake a Weed Spraying Service for highway verges, which is to include roadway gutters, pavement & step edges adjoining verge lines and rear lanes throughout the borough. (See Appendix A maps/plans).

To ensure the use of Glyphosate is kept to a minimum, the weed treatment must be limited to that of actively growing weeds, with no blanket or continual application.

Project Specification

The roads and distances (Based on single/centre carriageway measurements) are as follows:

Highways & Verges

Class I Roads 46 Km

Class II Roads 20 Km

Class III Roads 48 Km

Unclassified Roads 379 Km

Rear Lanes 57.31 Km

Total 550.31Km

Where access is restricted by vehicles or other obstacles, the contractor must ensure these areas are treated by other means i.e. knapsack or returning to site on alternative date. Where areas cannot be accessed the contractor must contact the Project manager immediately to report what areas were not covered and why.

Chemicals used must be environmentally friendly and approved by DEFRA

2.0 DELIVERABLES

Two (2) weed spraying cycles are required per annum; one cycle to commence during April and to be completed within an eight-week period, with the second and final to commence during August, again to be completed within an eight-week period.
