Abstract
Swansea Council are looking to commission a service to deliver play sessions with children aged (0-10) with additional needs and their families in community based facilities. The aim of these sessions are to improve parental understanding of play, increase family bonding and support children’s development and wellbeing.
The importance of play in terms of children’s development and family bonding has been highlighted even more in recent years. Family-based play is intended to build connections with families impacted by disability and or ALN, including siblings where appropriate. Particularly, it is hoped that this will address parent/child relationships which can sometimes be challenging. This is particularly the case, but not exclusively, with fathers and This provision needs to evidence how it would be delivered in a variety of approaches to provide continuous delivery within government guidelines.
This service forms part of a co-ordinated programme of preventative services for children and young people with additional needs or who are otherwise disabled, and their families. As such, referral and partnership mechanisms and approaches are key.
