Abstract

Our Living Levels is looking to commission a report reviewing the effect of cumulative development on the Gwent Levels landscape. The Gwent Levels has been subject to a significant amount of development in recent years. This development has had several effects on the landscape, including: • Loss of habitat • Fragmentation of habitat • Fragmentation of the historic landscape • Degradation of water quality • Increased noise and light pollution • Visual impacts There is a growing concern that the cumulative effects of development are having a significant negative impact on the landscape. This project will aim to assess the scale and extent of these impacts, and to make recommendations for how they can be mitigated. The scope of work for this project will include the following: 1. Review of existing data: A review of existing data on Gwent Levels will be conducted. This data will include information on the landscape's geology, soils, hydrology, vegetation, and wildlife, the location and extent of development, the condition of the landscape, and the presence of any threatened or endangered species. 2. Analysis of data: The data collected during the review of existing data will be analysed to assess the cumulative effects of development on Gwent Levels. This analysis will consider the direct, indirect, and secondary impacts of development. 3. Recommendations: Recommendations will be made for how the cumulative effects of development on Gwent Levels can be mitigated. These recommendations may include changes to land use planning policies, the development of new regulations, or the implementation of restoration projects. Services A report that summarises the findings of the assessment and makes recommendations for mitigation.
