Abstract

Swansea University’s Fish tracking team are currently using acoustic tags and passive acoustic recorders to quantify migration pathways of 9 fish species in the Bristol Channel, as well as cetaceans. Acoustically tagging fish allows detailed information to be gathered around fish behaviour and movements within the riverine, estuarine and marine environments that can be used to prioritise actions and influence management of fisheries. Swansea University’s Fisheries Project team wish to source a suitably qualified and experienced supplier of Acoustic Tags and Passive Acoustic Receivers over a 2-year period, due to various sources of staggered funding. The Project teams existing passive acoustic array currently comprises ca.130 deployed receivers (about 100 deployed at sea and approximately 30 in rivers) currently operating on MAP 114 and 115, with most equipment on long term loan from partners including Natural Resources Wales, Natural England, The Environment Agency and the Atlantic Salmon Trust). They also have a significant number of tags already deployed on these code maps.
