The Trust's commitment to excellence in healthcare plays a vital role in addressing the complex medical needs of its community, contributing significantly to the overall health and well-being of its patients daily. As part of the Transforming Cancer Services in South-East Wales Programme, Velindre University NHS Trust has achieved Financial Close on the procurement of the new Velindre Cancer Centre (nVCC) Project. The nVCC is a pilot project for the Welsh Government’s Mutual Investment Model (MIM) and will provide non-surgical oncology services to a population of 1.5 million people across South-East Wales. The nVCC has been designed to be the greenest hospital in the UK, promoting and enhancing the goals of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act. The provider will undertake habitat restoration and woodland management in several designated areas surrounding the new Velindre Cancer Centre (nVCC) site. These works include: Site Preparation and Clearance: - Removal of hard surfaces (bituminous areas, rubble, fly-tipped materials). - Soil preparation, including importation and installation of subsoil and topsoil layers. - Excavation and backfilling of tree pits for planting. Habitat Creation and Planting: - Creation of native woodland habitat by planting standard trees (8-10 cm girth) and transplants (60-80 cm 1+1). - Maintaining specified planting densities and implementing weed control measures for the first three years. Tree Protection and Woodland Management: - Installation of protective fencing around existing trees (in line with BS 5837:2012 standards). - Management of woodland areas, including coppicing of Hazel and Sweet Chestnut. - Removal of invasive species such as Bracken, Himalayan Balsam, and Cherry Laurel. - Addressing ash dieback by identifying and removing unsafe trees. Infrastructure and Hardworks: - Installation of agricultural post and mesh fencing. - Relocation and installation of Legato blocks at designated entrance points (6 total). - Removal of redundant tree protection fencing and other light structures.

The Contracting Authority is proposing to use the Open Procedure to conduct this procurement.

Velindre University NHS Trust will award the contract as hosts of NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership - Procurement Services. For the avoidance of doubt, NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership will be entering into the contract with the appointed provider.

All tender costs and liabilities incurred by bidders shall be the sole responsibility of the bidders. The contracting authority reserves the right to award the Contract in whole or in part. The contracting authority reserves the right to pause, halt and/or annul the tendering process and not to award the Contract.

The Contract to which this procurement relates are funded via Welsh Government funding. Please refer to the invitation to tender for rights reserved to the contracting authority should the said funding cease or reduce.
