Project Overview
Future Farms is a partnership funded pilot project to create 3 new affordable, low impact rural enterprise dwellings, a shared packing / storage shed and other associated works on a 35 acre, bare land, holding on the outskirts of the village of Sarn, Powys.
A full planning application has been submitted to the Local Planning Authority and can be found searching the Powys Planning Portal using the following reference: 24/0443/FUL and an additional application for a ground mounted solar array has been submitted:
Reference: 24/1319/FUL
Proposal: Erection of two rows of solar array Site Address: Land To The North Of Wern Lane, Wern Lane, Sarn, Newtown, Powys
We are now seeking quotations from experienced and qualified contractors (ones that meet current CDM requirements) to provide a fully off grid power supply solution for the farm site including distribution of power to distribution boards within the dwellings and barn.
The project team may be able to provide trenching for the site distribution, but it would be helpful for you to include this in your costings so we can compare. We expect you to provide the cabling requirements for the site.
We anticipate that within the barn, provision of space can be made for the main distribution board / inverters and any battery solutions.
The Future Farms partnership has made some informed assumptions of the needs of the site and alternative options for power. We are awaiting a grid connection quotation for the site, but it is highly un-likely we will have any available grid connection to complement any ‘off-grid’ solution.
We require submissions to fully detail the solutions for power generation, storage and back up (should they be required) to give a 365 day a year power solution to the homes and barn.
Our energy usage / consumption estimates should give sufficient detail for power demands but these should be taken as a higher end calculation (i.e. they building some redundancy / overcapacity already). The Solar Array application we have submitted is to be used as a maximum guide, not what is absolutely necessary.
We will require your submission to include your site specific evidence and calculations that form the backbone of your proposed solutions.
Please note this is a funded project and the timeframes for completion are very tight and we will be asking for the majority of any installation to be completed by the end of Feb 2025.
Received tenders will be scored against the following criteria:
Item % Score / Weighting
Design of a system that fully meets the need of the site - 40%
Value for Money: we have budgeted for around £50,000 of cost for this element of the project - 40%
Experience of delivering this type of work - 10%
Start Date & Completion Time Frames to be detailed - 10%
We anticipate issuing further tender opportunities for other elements of the site developments in due course.
Files / Drawings to use when considering your tender submission:
1. General Site Layout
2. Detailed drawings of buildings
3. Solar Array Planning Application
4. Estimated power demands for dwellings and barn
5. Other files as contained in the planning application 24/0443/FUL & 24/1319/FUL
