Abstract

Public Health Wales (PHW) wishes to commission an experienced organisation to develop a behavioural science informed communications intervention to help prevent and reduce health harms associated with a changing climate and specifically adverse weather events. There are a number of things that can be done to tackle the health effects of adverse weather amongst vulnerable groups, many of which depend on the behaviours of staff, whether involved in direct care or in other parts of the system that can implement supportive actions. Public Health Wales has a role to support communication of appropriate messages as well as understanding the behaviours that need to be adopted in response to adverse weather events. We want to understand what type(s) of information that different population groups, who are at most risk from climate change, need so that they know what actions they need to take, and when, to protect and improve population health in relation to a changing climate. PHW wants to develop an effective, behavioural science-based communications intervention that will enable people in Wales to stay safe when faced with different types of adverse weather. The successful agency will gather behavioural insights about the target behaviours and their determinants from the target populations. Making use of models, theoretical frameworks and methods from behavioural science, the insights will inform the development of the communications intervention (eg communication strategy and plan) which will include targeted creative content in relevant assets and channels, and an affordable strategy and plan for their delivery.
