Abstract

The proposal seeks to improve continuation of work of the scheme which commenced development in 23/24 schemes which would see the upgrade of the existing footways to Active Travel shared use standard at Pill Millenium Field, Pillgwenlly. This project is to commission a contractor to undertake construction works to provide connectivity in the ward of Pillgwenlly, Newport and specifically to improve active travel connectivity as a viable alternative for residents to travel between the centre of Pill to the new residential development, at the former Whiteheads site, on the outskirts of the ward. In particular, the route should enable residents to access the new school building that is currently being constructed on the site of the former Whiteheads land.

Total quantity or scope of tender

The scheme is a direct response to the authority’s commitment to the Welsh Government’s commitment to Active Travel, seeking to provide a community link that is safe and viable for pedestrians and cyclists. The aim of the Action Plan is to enable and direct authorities to provide upgrades that contribute to cleaner air, fewer car journeys, active lifestyle choices and reduced carbon emissions.
