Abstract

Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) in partnership with the new Haverfordwest Castle CIO (the CIO) has been advised by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) of its success at Round 1 (Development Phase) of its bid to secure £2.68m towards the redevelopment of Haverfordwest Castle. This will include creating an interactive family discovery centre showcasing Pembrokeshire’s past, present, and future through state-of-the-art STEM-based exhibits, together with a redisplay of the Haverfordwest Museum (within the curtilage of the castle in the Governor’s House), external interpretation within the grounds of the castle and a wide-ranging activity plan supporting the capital investment. As part of the development phase, which will run from summer 2024 to autumn 2025, PCC is seeking to appoint a consultancy to prepare a detailed activity plan in advance of the second-round (delivery phase) funding application, which is scheduled for submission in August 2025. The appointed consultancy will be required to build on outline proposals and recommendations to develop a fully-costed activity plan for the project giving due regard to NLHF guidance. The aim of the activity plan is to ensure that the project is both people and heritage focused while integrating a strong STEM-based approach. It will reveal a plan of action that details how people will engage with the Flagship Heritage Attraction (FHA), demonstrate that we will achieve the appropriate number and range of outcomes and detail how we will achieve these outcomes through activities.
