II.1.4) Short description
The funding has a tight expenditure deadline (31st July 2022), so we have published this tender before the funding decision. As such, the tender award will be subject to funding award.
An FSI non-contact optical measurement system, capable of volumetric particle image velocimetry, or stereo-DIC and stereo-PIV is sought. A 4-camera system will suffice for most applications in mind. A system that can also make use of our existing high-speed camera equipment is highly desirable (2x Photron Nova S6).
Delivery will need to be to the Service Yard at Bay Campus, Swansea University, ideally by the 31st July 2022.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement
The funding has a tight expenditure deadline (31st July 2022), so we have published this tender before the funding decision. As such, the tender award will be subject to funding award.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering develops synthetic experimental systems to assess the efficacy of medical devices and implants. Target applications involve studying the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. The interaction of the fluid and solid tissue structure is of great importance to understand the mechanics of that system in health and disease. High-fidelity computational modelling frameworks already exist within the Department. This contract hopes to acquire hardware to enable fluid-structure interaction (FSI) measurements to be performed, to help validate such computational models. Expertise and hardware already exist for non-contact optical techniques such as digital image correlation (DIC), particle image velocimetry (PIV) at low speeds and high-frame rates. However, this contract aims to purchase an all-in-one integrated FSI system to couple DIC and PIV – delivering FSI analysis in one platform.
A fluid-structure interaction (FSI) non-contact optical measurement system, capable of volumetric particle image velocimetry, or stereo-digital image correlation (DIC) and stereo-particle image velocimetry (PIV). A 4-camera system is envisaged to suffice for this specification. The application area is Biomedical Engineering, so track-record for delivery in this sector is highly desired. The focus of this FSI system is to visualise internal flows but adaptability for internal and external flow measurements is a mandatory requirement. A fixed system for one application will not pass the evaluation.
Note: two Photron Nova S6 cameras are already owned by the Department and can be considered usable in the configuration options offered in addition to the standalone system requested. However, a standalone system for FSI or volumetric PIV is the mandatory requirement.
