TWI is looking to invest in a twin-screw extruder machine as part of a suite of material processing machines to be situated in Middlesbrough.A twin-screw extruder is used for many applications such as compounding (ingredient mixing), dispersing of pigments and additives, reinforcement with glass, carbon and other fibre materials, masterbatch production, devolatilization, pumping thermally sensitive materials, and reaction chambers for mixing and transport of viscous materials. TWI is one of the world’s foremost independent research and technology organisations, with expertise in solving problems in all aspects of manufacturing, fabrication and whole-life integrity management technologies.Established in Cambridge, UK in 1946 and with facilities across the globe, the company has a first class reputation for service through its teams of internationally respected consultants, scientists, engineers and support staff, whose knowledge and expertise is available to its Industrial Members as and when they require.TWI is developing a new Materials Integrity Centre on TeesAMP at Ferrous Road, Middlesbrough, TS2 1DJ with the new centre being supported by ERDF and TVCA funding. The project will upgrade the current research facilities on the site as well as providing a new research and innovation facility. The centre will focus on new materials testing facilities, especially non-destructive testing technologies, and support local economic development.
