2.4

Total quantity or scope of tender

The site is 14ha.

The planned interventions are:

Standard Peat Dam or Coir logs: 2680m gully (268 dams)

Blocking of small gullies in a patchwork/dendritic area, on average 2-3m wide, dams installed roughly every 10m. Peat dams are preferred due to a greater water holding ability and no need for materials. However if machinery access is not possible, it may be best to install coir or sheep wool logs/rolls. Please estimate what you think would be doable in your quote, based on your experience and site visit.

Standard/ low Peat Dam: 450m gully (45 dams)

Blocking medium gullies, on average 5m wide. Dams to be installed roughly every 10m.

Hagg Reprofiling: 300m

Reprofiling peat haggs between 50cm and 1m.

Contour Bunding: 2960m (3850 including cross-bunds)

Contour bunds both in dendritic area, and flat modified bog surface.

Bund height with turf will be 400mm. Bund width will be 1m. Average 6m cross-bund every 20m. Covered with vegetation or Jute if necessary.

Jute: 990

Potential length of intervention requiring Jute (rough estimate) where there is little vegetation. Use of existing vegetation is preferred, and this can be discussed on site with the chosen contractor.

Questions from Site Visits
Contractor visit Questions and answers:

• Can we refuel on the site?
Yes. Refuelling must be managed at locations identified on your RAMS for the work and agreed with the Project Manager. Refuelling should be assessed as high risk. This must be as far from any water courses as is possible on the site; appropriate pollution control materials must be kept on site at all times. Include a spill kit for every machine, proportionate to the amount of fuel and hydraulic oil it holds.

• In case of bad weather temporarily putting a stop to the works and having to bring the machines down and then back up again -should we include the cost of re-mobilisation in our quote?
This is not something that we are asking of people to include, but if you would like to include it, that’s up to you. It may be wise to prioritise starting in September while we have a good weather window, which hugely reduces the likelihood of any work halting weather.

• Do we have to come back if there are any failures in interventions e.g. Leaking/burst dams?
If there are defects noted while you are still on site, it’s likely you’ll be asked to fix them. Once you’ve left site, we won’t expect you to come back in the instance of a small proportion of failed interventions. In the instance of a significant failure, within the first 6 months after leaving site, we would first investigate what may have led to failure, and we may request you return and fix the interventions, if it’s identified as being due to faulty workmanship.
