Description of the goods or services required

Bron Afon is seeking a suitably experienced Contractor to undertake pitched & Flat roofing, covered walkway removal, building and electrical works to fourteen Bron Afon owned bungalows and one house in Pontnewydd, Cwmbran. The works include; removing and replacing the existing pitched roofs coverings, fascia, soffits & rainwater goods. Removing the covered walkways and associated works, including general building and electrical work.

Some of the bungalows are connected together by a front covered walkway. The scheme also has shared communal areas, which include a communal lounge and kitchen. The scheme is classed as retirement housing, was built in the nineteen sixties and is of a traditional construction type. The residents of all the properties consist of Bron Afon tenants.

The scheme has covered walkways that are deteriorating and will be removed as part of the project. As a result of the covered walkways being removed, the existing services fixed to them will need removing or relocating. This will generally include external lighting, TV - Satellite and Telecommunication cabling.

Under the terms of this contract the successful supplier(s) will be required to deliver Community Benefits in support of the authority’s economic and social objectives. Accordingly, contract performance conditions may relate in particular to social and environmental considerations. The Community Benefits included in this contract are:

Bron Afon is committed to contributing to the social, economic and environmental well-being of the wider community. Consequently Community Benefits clauses will be a mandatory contract clause. Therefore, as a minimum requirement, Tenderers will have to agree that community benefits will become part of the contract and as such, a minimum 1% cash donation will be required.

The buyer considers that this contract is suitable for consortia bidding.
