Existing Building Design
Pyle
Mens change ceiling is 600 x 600 lay in grid system with flush fitting tiles
Ladies change is 600 x 600 lay in grid system with rebated tiles
Ventilation grilles are of varying sorts with no uniformity and appear to be installed “where possible” rather than to provide adequate well spread ventilation
Showers are currently of a push button type with chrome pipework and fixed head outlets fed from a single mixer (type unknown). There are 4 no. of showers in each changing area.
All wet areas currently have tiling that is of 2 colours with an interim detailed border tile. All other walls are painted.
Lighting is currently achieved with 5ft fluorescent battens mounted below the ceiling grid. There is no local control of the lighting in these areas and switching is achieved from reception only.
Recommendations -
Recommendations
Ceiling
Standard 600x600 (white) grid system with flush fitting tiles suitable for the area they are installed in. Due to the ceiling height in the shower areas it may be appropriate to utilise a solid tile construction within the ceiling grid.
Ventilation
Supply and Extract grilles (white) located into ceiling with ductwork adapted above to suit. Locations should be as per drawing to ensure adequate ventilation across the area
Lighting
The wiring for the lighting appears to be in a galvanised lighting trunking above the ceiling although there are cables hanging over ductwork. The wiring is anticipated to be original and as such consideration to rewiring the area with new containment and local detection sensors should be considered.
Lay in 600 x 600 LED ceiling panels spaced to achieve uniform lighting spread across the area. Lighting must be suitable for the environment.
Emergency lighting should be installed and stand alone from the main lighting with suitably located test points or remote test facility.
Agreement on cubicle design and layout must be agreed and drawings issued to the electrical contractor in order to achieve a suitable lighting design layout.
Fire alarm #(see note 1 below)
Detection below and above the ceiling is required due to the void height above. Detectors should be suitable for the environment they are to be installed in with adequate audible and visual warning notification for customers.
The alarm should be to L2 standard.
Showers
The existing system should be replaced with a RADA Outlook mixer and fixed shower heads, which can be installed to accommodate 6 outlets in total. This mixer could also be used to feed 2no. of wash hand basins. All shower heads to be fitted with 6ltr/min flow restrictors.
Power supplies to the shower mixers will be required and should be installed to comply with the latest wiring regulations. Chasing of walls prior to over boarding to accommodate the installation of shower sensor wiring within containment to allow for changing at a later date will also be required.
Wall finishes
Within the shower areas the tiles should be removed, walls repaired where required to provide a solid substrate to allow fixing of full height shower boarding throughout.
All other walls are painted and will require preparation prior to repainting.
Floor finishes
Where walls are removed floors are to be repaired with a similar matching tile of non slip format. Floors are not being replaced so adequate protection must be applied prior to works commencing by any trades.
Cubicles & Lockers
A suitable design to achieve the most efficient use of space should be provided. Family changing cubicles should also be considered within the design. Consultation with the partnership manager for the area and centre manager should be had to achieve project goals.
Installation drawings will be required and supplied on request to the electrical contractor as early as possible within this project.
Cubicles and any other support structures should be of a suitable construction for the environment they are to be installed in.
Lockers are to be of varying sizes, a padlock system is to be used for securing lockers. Padlocks will be provided by customers.
