Abstract
AberInnovation provides pilot scale processing facilities for novel ingedients and innovative applications exploring alternative food, feed and nutritional products.
AberInnovation with Aberystwyth University departments, IBERS, Department of Life Sciences and collaborative industrial partners have identified a demand to expand on the existing pilot scale spray drying capabilities with the addition of fluid bed powder processing for the final drying of fine powders.
Fluid bed powder processing is applicable for final drying of fine powders produced by spray drying, agglomeration of powder particles into granules, and coating of individual powder particles with a thin layer of an alternative material. Agglomeration processes convert powdery particles into free-flowing, low-dust, coarse granules with defined properties. The main purpose of agglomeration is to improve certain physical properties of food powders such as bulk density, flowability, dispersibility, and stability.
