Short description of the contract or purchase(s)

Fire extinguishers. The authority is looking to replace current hand held fire extinguishers (HHFE) used in the crew compartments of Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV). Current HHFE's use Halon 1211 gas (BCF) as the suppressant, however following the signing of the Montreal Protocol, the use and manufacture of Halon 1211 in the UK has been banned. The MOD needs to replace all of its 1.4 Kg BCF HHFE's with a suitable alternative, which meets an MOD determined output/performance specification.

A bracket shall allow easy access to to the extinguisher for all personnel whilst wearing hand protection such as CBRN or cold weather arctic 2
The extinguisher shall be able to be stored in any orientation 5
Corrosion test internal and external (to EN-3) 4
The LC50 value for the supressant should be greater than 100 000 ppm 5
The extinguisher shall be capable of maintaining a continuous discharge for at least 6 seconds in the upright position, at the ambient temperature 4
