Since 2014, in line with the wider ambition of the health board to deliver care closer to home and taking into account factors such as accessibility for patients, quality standards and development opportunities, the Health Board has commissioned a primary care vasectomy service, designed to deliver within a community setting with appropriate facilities to provide a timely, effective service for non-complex procedures in primary care.
The Primary Care Vasectomy Service is provided by General Practitioners with Special Interests (GPwSI) and demonstrates a successful pathway re-design from a hospital delivered model to one that is based in and delivered by primary care. The service promotes the use of specialist skills in primary care.
The main aims of the service are to offer;
• Comprehensive holistic patient focused care package, including pre and post-operative care, information, advise and counselling
• To provide an opportunity for men’s health promotion
• To provide services that comply with accepted best practice, relevant accreditation processes, relevant clinical guidelines and robust governance arrangements
• To provide a high quality, cost effective, local vasectomy service based in the community
The current service level agreement with end on the 31st March 2020. This tender will commence on 1st April 2020 for a period of 3 years with the option to extend by a further 2 years.
