Abstract

Derry City and Strabane District Council invite suppliers to tender for PeacePlus Our Shared History. This tender is to deliver a project focused on cross-community engagement with political ex-prisoners (loyalist and republican) and others, exploring history through talks, tours, museum and exhibition visits and dialogue events. It includes delivery of an OCN (or similar) accredited tour guide training course for community level tourism. The ethos of the project should be to promote peace and reconciliation through training, dialogue and engagement. When exploring potentially contentious history related to Ireland, Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom as well as the wider European context (e.g. Plantation, Siege of Derry, Famine and Troubles), programming must be in line with the principles of shared and ethical remembrance. This is a key project arising from the co-design process within the council area including the political ex-prisoner community, as a way to model reconciliation. The co-design process identified the Moor District Electoral area as a key area with potential for this focus. The delivery agent should focus project recruitment in this area but may also recruit more widely including across the city and district and cross-border in particular where this will enhance cross-community balance, peace and reconciliation content and / or cross-border engagement. The Co-design process identified the need for a project with specific focus on political ex-prisoners and others most directly impacted by the legacy of the past to be included in the PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan. It is envisioned that many participants on this project will be political ex-prisoners or people who have directly or indirectly been significantly impacted by conflict and its legacy. Please refer to the CfT documents for further detail.
