Abstract

Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd. (CMAL) propose to procure a Passenger Access System (PAS) and Connecting walkway as a part of the redevelopment of Brodick Ferry Terminal to permit foot Passengers to embark/ dis-embark in a secure and safe manner, unaffected by weather conditions, between the terminal building, and ferry vessels berthed at the adjacent new pier. The Procurement of the system shall be by a design and build contract. The Performance Specification for the PAS is set out below. The term ‘passenger access system’ refers to the complete installation from the seaward end of the emergency stair escape buildings, located at the shore end of the pier, to the passenger access system connection to the berthed vessel, and encompasses all the work required to provide an operational facility.

The design and supply of the PAS shall include all the moving parts and their support structures, all control and safety systems. Lighting, aesthetics, non-slip flooring, terminal staff access stairs, provision of handrails, directional signage, statutory safety requirements, ease of maintenance and simplicity of operation and all complementary and related criteria shall be incorporated in the design/ supply/ installation.

The connection between the PAS and the vessel's doorway shall be via a powered telescopic gangway. Some of the vessels intended to use the PAS incorporate latch bars. These are round bars located below the passenger doors. Manually operated gangways deployed at other ports incorporate hooks to latch over these bars to lock the gangway to the vessel. The latest vessels which are intended to berth at the Brodick PAS may not have these latch bars.

Please read a further fuller description of the scope of supply in the technical documents, which are part of the tender documents included with this tender.
