VI.3) Additional information
MV Loch Riddon, MV Loch Striven and MV Loch Tarbert are 30 mtr long double ended car and passenger ferries built in 1986,1987 and 1992 respectively. All the vessels are driven by Volvo TAMD 12 ltr marine engines (275 Kw output) driving voith propulsion systems through close coupled gearboxes and fluid couplings. The older vessels now have 105 000 running hours and the availability of spares is harder to source.
Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd in partnership with the charterer plan to re-engine these vessels at the next drydocking opportunity. Riddon Oct 16, Tarbert Nov 16 and Striven Dec 16.
As well as ensuring resilience the change-out will provide better fuel consumption and reduced emissions and as such all engines should be as a minimum IMO NOx tier II compliant. The ships are classed to Lloyds so the engines should be classed for main propulsion service on a passenger vessel.
Local start stop including instrumentation with remote stop and limited instrumentation in wheelhouse. Remote Alarm monitoring (servowatch) on Loch Tarbert only and feed to this system to be included.
Through-life service cost is important and we would require a service schedule for 3600 hrs per annum for 10 years. A spares package for resilient service should also be included.
We will require the supplier to turnkey project the fitting of the engines on the vessel and commissioning to MCA and classification requirements. As such we will require a detailed specification of what shipyard assistance is required to complete this task. The ships drydock for a maximum of 14 days and this should be taken into account when allocating resources to the project.
MV Loch Riddon operates on the Largs Cumbrae service and is the easiest ship to visit (Closest to Glasgow) and we would recommend inspection of the existing set up prior to tendering for the above.
As part of the tender we would also request an option for two, four and six further engines to be taken up on season 2017/18.
