Abstract

The Area Planning Board (APB) is a strategic partnership of all agencies across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot who are committed to tackling and reducing the harms associated with substance use. The Board is responsible for the monitoring, planning and development of treatment services, coordinating funding from the Welsh Government and other sources to ensure that people have access to services that meet their needs and are designed to improve their personal wellbeing. The Area Planning Board has taken the decision to embark on a programme of transformation to improve service provision and will aim to create an integrated Public Health approach to the prevention of and treatment for substance use. The new ‘whole system approach’ will include replacing the current range of substance use services through commissioning a new integrated highly visible, accessible and effective substance use service that delivers integrated treatment and support to meet the needs of the diverse population of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. As a result, we are bringing together a range of stakeholders to explore the potential for collaboration. We are bringing together commissioners, providers and people with lived experience to co-design the future service model using a tried and tested interactive approach based on the appreciative inquiry process. This enables providers to play an integral part in creating the services and begin the process of collaborating and building strong, trusting relationships. An invite to attend a number of workshops was provided previously, and so many of you will have attended the Alliance workshops. I am delighted to extend a further invite to an online presentation/workshop to you scheduled for 6th June 2024. We really want to give everyone the opportunity to understand what it means to be part of an Alliance from people who have lived it. This online session will provide you with a further opportunity to speak to a current Alliance provider and consider how we can collaborate in our region. Whilst we have endeavoured to undertake workshops face to face, we recognise that for some attendance can be a challenge and so this session will be online only. There is no limit on number of people who can attend, but we would suggest that this will be most helpful for providers of services, and for those who missed Workshop 5. If you want to be invited please let us know by emailing Laura Cooper-Smith l.cooper-smith@npt.gov.uk If you have any questions or queries, or just want to find out more before the day, please feel free to make contact with me to discuss.
