The procurement falls outside the scope of application of the Directive
Explanation:
VNS Therapy is delivered through an implanted device that sends mild pulses to the vagus nerve at regular intervals throughout the day in an effort to reduce and/or prevent seizures. Patients are referred to this type of therapy when drugs have failed to provide a more manageable treatment. These devices are programmeable for a personalised therapy approach and the technology is highly specialised. Livanova are the only company that manufacture and supply this device and as such, the Health Board is applying a 10 day standstill period prior to awarding this contract.
