Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council wishes to promote redevelopment of the current Rhydycar Leisure Centre site and adjacent land. Potential being considered for any or all elements including design, construction, finance and operation of mixed use commercial and community leisure facilities including sports ahll, swimming pool, health and fitness and indoor bowls. Indicative master plan shows the potential for a hotel, multi-screen cinema, family pub/restaurant and backpackers' hostel. Other leisure uses could be considered within the scope of the Outline Planning Consent and associated planning conditions.
