II.2.4) Description of the procurement
Coleg y Cymoedd needs to replace its current data storage with a modern, innovative, robust and cost effective suite of storage services for use with its corporate IT systems. The solution must also incorporate data centre networking, backup and disaster recovery requirements and other associated infrastructure. Please see further details of each requirement below.
The college has a large server and network infrastructure across it’s four campuses of which two of the campuses consist of 3x virtual infrastructure solutions currently supporting 94 virtual servers. These virtual solutions are minimum of 5 years old of which are out of manufacturer’s warranty.
The College is aiming to refresh this aging infrastructure for a number of reasons including:
- SAN storage being at fully capacity.
- 2x SAN storage servers specified ‘end of life’ by manufacturer.
- A number of faulty disks have been replaced.
- Host servers memory at capacity.
- Concern of performance degradation due to virtual server and application requirement.
- Long term iSCSI and production switch performance.
- General hardware reliability.
- Replacement parts.
The college recognises the need to replace its virtual infrastructure but as with other FE institutions there are currently financial challenges. For affordability, the college is aiming to consolidate its infrastructure to a one location solution, but, the college will consider a second option within the tender consisting of a primary and secondary infrastructure dependant on the total solution cost.
Coleg y Cymoedd is inviting suitably qualified bidders for the supply and implementation of a Virtualized Server Infrastructure solution.
To accomplish this project, the supplier will be required to implement a highly available clustered server and redundant storage infrastructure and migrate the existing virtual and physical servers and data to the new virtualized servers.
