Abstract

This tender is to purchase a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) system that is optimised for operation from a standard drone capable of lifting a few kilograms of weight. The GPR system should operate at low enough frequency and with high enough power to penetrate through several metres of saturated UK bog peat and thicker snow and glacier ice in academic research projects as well as commercial consultancy projects, including in Polar and high-mountain environments. The ground-penetrating radar (GPR) system should be optimised for operation from a standard drone capable of lifting a few kilograms of weight, and as such be compatible with automated drone surveying. The GPR system should operate at low enough frequency and with high enough power to penetrate through several metres of saturated UK bog peat and thicker snow and glacier ice in Polar and high-mountain environments. The GPR system should enable real-time monitoring through wireless data transmission to a rugged visual display unit operated on the ground. The rugged display unit along with all applicable acquisition and visualisation software should also be supplied, and the GPR system should also include all components for differential GNSS positioning between the drone and a base station on the ground. The operating temperature of the whole system should cover the range of -20°C to +40°C, and the whole system should be waterproof to heavy rainfall. Enough battery power should be supplied for the whole system to operate for 8 hours continuously, and enough chargers should be supplied such that all batteries for all system components can be charged simultaneously. All GPR system components should be fully compatible with each other and be supplied by a single provider.
