Abstract

Scope Design a Grid Tied 80.00 kWp Photovoltaic Array with 60kWh of Battery Storage for Thomas and Davies Ltd, Pentrebach Road, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 1YB. The PV Inverter and Battery Storage will be installed to the rear of Garage in the old Paint Shop. PV System Design. The PV system will incorporate the following points within the design. • Inverter must have minimum 12-year warranty • Type 2 surge protection built into the inverter. • Tier 1 Monocrystalline Modules with a Module Efficiency greater than 20% • Modules to have a 12 Year Warranty for Materials and Processing. • Modules to have 25-year Power output Warranty (Power Output Tolerance - ≤2% Year 1 & ≤0.55% years 2 to 25) • Safe Touch voltage technology built into the design to reduce DC voltage at loss of inverter power. • Optimisation to mitigate all types of module mismatch-loss from manufacturing tolerance to partial shading. • Optimisation to ensure maximum generation of the PV modules at panel level, minimum one for two panels. • Inverters and optimisers be manufactured from the same company • Firefighter safety switch interconnected with the onsite fire alarm panel. Safety switch to reduce string voltage to below safe DC touch voltage on alarm. • Modbus meter with CT’s at intake position to monitor Import / Export via online monitoring system. • For ease of maintenance, module level monitoring is to be included with connection to internet • By isolating the AC supply the DC circuit must reduce below DC touch safe level • Inverter selection must have built in arc fault detection according to UL1699B • Arc fault detection must reduce DC current and DC voltage. • Export limitation to reduce export to below 100A • Trapezoidal Sheet mounting system. • G99 Application for connection. • MCS registration. Battery System Design The Battery Storage system will incorporate the following points within the design. • AC coupled commercial system. • Inverter and Batteries to be stored within purpose-built cabinet. • Battery Construction – LiFePO4 • Modular in Design. • Battery Energy Management System • 24/7 Monitoring System • 3 Year Product Warranty. • 10 Year Performance Warranty. • 30kW AC Discharge power. Electrical Infrastructure A new 3 phase distribution circuit to be installed tapping off the existing Bus Bar Chamber supplying a new 3 phase PV & Battery Distribution Board installed within the Old Paint Shop. The new submain cable will have a fused switched isolator at connection to Bus Bar for isolation. The new PV Distribution Board will supply power to all new components. All distribution circuits to be supported with independent containment and bracketry. Access Access to be supplied via scaffold with edge protection to all areas of the roof where proposed PV array is to be installed. Scaffold to have all safety permits and certificates in place before access to work. A site visit to site is recommended to confirm design requirements prior to pricing.
