Title
Wales International Coastal Centre (Phase 2) Saundersfoot Harbour - Marine Centre of Excellence
|
2.2
|
Description of the goods or services required
The contract will incorporate the design and construction of a new Marine Centre of Excellence at Saundersfoot Harbour, which forms part of the overall redevelopment of the Harbour which will become the Wales International Coastal Centre, creating the centre for water based activities in the region, capitalising on the sheltered and shallow and clean waters of Carmarthen Bay. This offers an ideal training ground for beginners through to advanced water activity based participants.
The Marine Centre of Excellence will include a restaurant, short stay accommodation, office accommodation, workshop, chandlery and an educational coastal storm centre.
The centre will also support the Trust Port’s wider strategic maritime tourism strategy that when combined with the two other proposed facilities, Coastal Clipper Experience and Ocean Square and Heritage Arts Centre, will form part of an extensive leisure and tourism experience that maximises the geographical layout of the harbour establishing a multi-centre experience catering for wide variety of needs and interests.
It is expected that this facility will greatly benefit the existing visitors to Saundersfoot. However, the new active facilities / accommodation and food experience will draw new market segments to the region who wish to participate in active leisure activities, as well as families who wish to engage with the coastline heritage through experiential displays such as the offer of the storm centre.
The MCoE is to be developed on the site of the disused Jones and Teague building that over the past 15 years fell into dereliction and is now demolished and left as a hard-core/concrete base ready for redevelopment.
