Operation includes the mowing of various project sites around mid and south Wales and the daily/weekly upkeep and cleaning to ensure the effective and safe running of the machine. The purpose of the requirement is to enable NRW to carry out conservation mowing on various peatlands sites including transition mire or quaking bogs which demands very low ground pressure machinery.
A key site will be Crymlyn Bog SAC (East Swansea) where the PistenBulley machine will play a key role in the restoration works - the control of a dominant plant species: Purple moor grass (Molinea caerulea) along with some sedge and other biomass. The PistenBulley will also be used on other project sites across mid and South Wales to bring sites into better management, enabling sustainable grazing to resume.
