Description of the contract
MHPA has identified the two existing pontoons that are located in the entrance to Milford Dock lock are to be replaced. The existing pontoons and the guide rails that hold the pontoons in position are reported to operate poorly and require very frequent maintenance or repair, particularly to the guide rails and rollers.
The primary function of the lock entrance pontoons is to provide temporary berthing to the vessels entering the dock while waiting for the lock to fill up to the required water level and the gates to open.
The pontoons should allow for easy access for inspection, maintenance and repair of the pontoons themselves and the guide rails, which is not currently achieved.
The project is intended to be funded by a Grant for UK Seafood Fund: Infrastructure (Round 2) and will only proceed on successful receipt of funding.
