Abstract
The project involves the retrofit of a 19th Century Carthouse on Gelli Aur Campus into a building that will facilitate teaching of retrofit techniques (classroom) and demoing latest technologies.
While pragmatically providing the spaces required, the building itself will also showcase the best and latest practice in retrofit techniques.
The proposal utilises the internal stone wall partitions with the removal of the blockwork partitions, to create a central entrance lobby, which will access:
• a classroom for 12 people (aimed at upskilling industry professionals), with an open-plan area for functional and educational purposes;
• and a demonstration room, where latest kit and products will be displayed and demonstrated
The Intention of the proposal is to highlight and enhance the existing characteristics of the carthouse (ie full utilisation and expression of the archways), while showcasing the latest and most appropriate M&E applications.
