Abstract

NWSSP Procurement Services hosted by Velindre NHS Trust has awarded a contract for NHS Wales Executive's Improvement Cymru Directorate, appointing a supplier to deliver a programme of work which uses the lean foundations of the Toyota Production System (TPS), or an equivalent model using the same principles of lean methodology. The aim of this work is to improve efficiency in the cancer pathway i.e. optimise systems and processes in the first 28 days that a patient is on a suspected cancer pathway in order to increase the number of patients who receive a diagnosis of cancer or not. The continued development of the programme will ensure continuity and constancy pan Wales in delivering improvements in practice which reduce variation, backlog, re-work and increase reliability in the cancer pathways across NHS Wales.
