Abstract

The proposed development site is located at: Olchfa Comprehensive School 301 Gower Rd, Sketty, Swansea SA2 7AA The rugby/football pitch layout is shown on drawing GTC00642 SK01 Rev B. The works are to include, but not Construction of an 115 x 75m WORLD RUGBY, IRB Clause 22 & FIFA Quality standard 3G Rugby / Football pitch. Accreditation to World Rugby Regulation 22 and EN 15330-1 The proposed development area is located directly to the south of the school buildings. The proposal is to convert and existing natural turf training area into a 115 x 75m 3G synthetic turf for rugby which is also suitable for football use. The pitch will have a goal recessed end for goal storage. The intention is to connect a new pitch drainage system into this outlet chamber with a restricted discharge rate. Attenuation of drainage water will be undertaken in the stone sub-base used as a formation to the pitch construction. The site investigation has shown that there is a layer of potentially expandable slag material present close to the existing surface. A proportion of this material may need to be removed off site and it is classified as hazardous waste. A provisional sum allowance has been made if this is required. The Earth Science Partnership geotechnical investigation has shown that the slag material has the capacity to expand by approximately 1% when wetted for a prolonged period. They have therefore recommended that the material is covered with an impermeable membrane to reduce the risk of any expansion. The appointed contractor will therefore be required to design and install an impermeable membrane system to be installed over the formation and through the drain lines and under fencing. The area to be covered is the pitch and goal storage area footprint including the external mowing strips. Pitch drainage water will need to be attenuated under the pitch footprint therefore the membrane will need to be totally impermeable to prevent ingress of water into the underlying slag material. The installation of a 250 lux LED floodlighting system and 5 m high rebound fencing will be required. Tasks will include but not limited to: Setting out Undertake access road condition survey Set up compound area Spray off topsoil with total herbicide Strip topsoil and remove off site Cut and fill formation and access path Grade subsoil formation Supply and install drainage system to all work areas Supply and install silt traps and inspection chambers Supply and install impermeable membrane with protection geotextiles over graded formation through drain lines Supply & install geogrid – (Provisional) Supply and install stone base Supply and install macadam layer Supply and install shockpad Supply and install WORLD RUGBY/FIFA Quality (60mm pile) carpet with sand and SBR crumb infill. The proposed development area is located directly to the south of the school buildings. The

proposal is to convert and existing natural turf training area into a 115 x 75m 3G synthetic turf for

system to be installed over the formation and through the drain lines and under fencing. The area

to be covered is the pitch and goal storage area footprint including the external mowing strips.
