Abstract

To ensure that Qualifications Wales is planning to ensure the continued effectiveness of assessment within qualifications we have created an internal work output on modernising assessment (MA). Modernising assessment work is about ensuring that assessments taken as part of qualifications in the future enhance, and strike an optimal balance between, four important assessment principles: validity, engagement, manageability, and reliability, including through the effective use of digital technologies (DT). Qualifications Wales want to award a contract for research services that will aim to: 1. explore the research evidence on the effectiveness of Continuous Assessment (CA) including any role played by Digital Technology (literature review) 2. consider several relevant examples of summative CA used in national/jurisdictional assessment systems, including any role played by DT (case studies) 3. use the findings from the first two outputs to describe plausible scenarios/opportunities for use of (digitalised) CA within a general and vocational qualifications context in Wales.

2. consider several relevant examples of summative CA used in national/jurisdictional assessment systems, including any role played by DT (case studies)

3. use the findings from the first two outputs to describe plausible scenarios/opportunities for use of (digitalised) CA within a general and vocational qualifications context in Wales.
